Psychiatric and psychological reports for legal proceedings

Independent psychiatric and psychological reports prepared by GMC-registered psychiatrists and HCPC-registered psychologists, for solicitors, courts and tribunals across England and Wales.

Expert Medical provides independent psychiatric and psychological reports across criminal, family, civil, immigration and tribunal proceedings. Reports are prepared by GMC-registered psychiatrists and HCPC-registered practitioner psychologists, matched to the clinical question in the case and written to meet the duties an expert owes to the court.

Registered specialists

Reports are prepared by GMC-registered psychiatrists, many of them Section 12 approved under the Mental Health Act 1983, and by HCPC-registered practitioner psychologists. The expert is matched to the issue, so a forensic question goes to a forensic specialist and a child matter to a child specialist.

Independent by duty

Whoever instructs and pays for the report, the expert's overriding duty is to the court. Opinions are formed after assessment and review of the records, not agreed in advance.

Written for the proceedings

Each report is structured for the rules that apply to it, whether that is the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) Part 35, Criminal Procedure Rules Part 19 or Family Procedure Rules Part 25, and set out to answer the questions the court or the instructing party has asked.

One panel for psychiatric and psychological evidence

From a single instruction we match the case to a suitably registered psychiatrist or psychologist, arrange the assessment and manage the report through to delivery, so the instructing party has one point of contact rather than several.

  • Psychological injury reports for personal injury and clinical negligence
  • Criminal reports including fitness to plead and mental state at the time
  • Family reports on parenting capacity and litigation capacity
  • Immigration and asylum reports, including trauma and its documentation
  • Mental capacity assessments under the Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • Tribunal reports and oral evidence
  • Housing and homelessness vulnerability reports
  • Parole Board risk and mental health reports
  • Private psychiatric and psychological assessments
  • Psychiatry, psychology and neuropsychology reports
  • Autism and ADHD diagnostic assessments
  • Single instruction, with the report managed through to delivery
