Military claims can follow more than one route. The Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) is a no-fault scheme administered by the Ministry of Defence through Veterans UK, covering injury or illness caused by service on or after 6 April 2005, and it uses the MoD's own process and medical evidence. A civil claim against the MoD is a separate common-law route where negligence can be established, and injuries dating from before the AFCS may fall under the War Pension Scheme.
