Each instruction is allocated to a specialist whose clinical field fits the injury. Fractures and musculoskeletal damage go to orthopaedic surgeons, brain injury and nerve damage to neurologists, and psychological harm to consultant psychiatrists or clinical psychologists. GPs handle soft-tissue cases and A&E consultants take complex multi-trauma, so the opinion comes from an expert who works in that field.
Registered, trained and accountable to the court
Every panel member holds current registration with the GMC or HCPC, has completed medico-legal training, and has no prior treating relationship with the claimant they examine. Their overriding duty is to the court, and each report carries the declarations and statement of truth that CPR Part 35 and Practice Direction 35 require, checked before delivery.

The panel covers every region of England and Wales, so examinations are arranged close to the injured person rather than wherever an expert happens to sit. A local appointment spares the claimant a long journey while they recover, and it keeps the medical evidence moving to the timescales agreed with the instructing party.
